Al Hamadi quoted No. 10 of 2017 on the protection of workers, maids, babysitters, gardeners and other workers, on the establishment of working hours, paid sick leave, and federal laws that are at least a day off each week.

The Act promotes decent working conditions for all workers, including social protection, as well as courts that specialize in hearing related disputes in the National Human Resources and Emirates Transitions and Courts.

The Labor Law also stipulates that employers and recruiters who have no guarantees or employee rights, as well as those who discriminate, harass or force employees, will face a fine of 100,000 dirhams.

Federal law covers 19 service industries, including sailors, guards, parking workers, farmers, gardeners, domestic helpers, cooks and babysitters, as well as personal trainers, nurses and drivers.

According to the law, discrimination includes the distinction between workers, ie employees must not be treated differently by race, color, gender, religion, political opinion, ethnicity or social origin.

Al Hamadi said: "The UAE's labor law is a comprehensive law that details the rights of all workers, employee records, safety standards, termination of employment relationships and service gratuities."

He pointed out that the law stipulates that recruitment agencies will impose penalties if they use violence against staff, fail to accurately notify staff members of their job descriptions or total compensation, or ensure their mental and physical well-being prior to taking them abroad. .


Judicial sector initiatives

The Ministry of Labour has taken various measures to protect labor rights, including organizing talks and site visits to staff quarters, popularizing labour laws and their rights, human trafficking and other related matters so that when their rights are infringed, they can know how to present to the relevant authorities. Complaints.

The department will more easily handle the relationship between workers and employers in the future, with the introduction of a mobile court. Last year, Abu Dhabi set up a one-day labour court “One-day Labour Court” to shorten the waiting time and ensure that the verdict is quickly reached if the dispute does not exceed 20,000 dirhams.

The Abu Dhabi mobile court, located in a double-decker bus, can run the same rights as an official court to quickly resolve cases involving large numbers of people living in an area, such as workers’ houses, or those who are difficult to attend. “The Judiciary has also launched a system on its website that can help or show employees how to calculate the remuneration they can get when they cancel the contract,” said Al Hamadi.

“The department also established a human rights department and legal aid office to help workers who have problems with work or disputes with employers.”

According to official data, the number of work-related injuries in the United Arab Emirates has been significantly reduced. From 2016 to 2017, the number of work-related injuries has been reduced from 90 to 48.

In 2017, a total of 10 complaints of unpaid wages were received, and from January to March 2018, 22 complaints were received.
